Alison M. Peck, 23, a music teacher at Greenfield High School in Greenfield, Missouri has reportedly been arrested on allegations that she had a sexual relationship with a student who is under 17-years-old.

Reportedly, court documents indicate that Peck told investigators she began exchanging text messages with the student in December, 2008 and that the relationship developed from a friendship into a sexual relationship.

Peck reportedly faces two counts of second-degree statutory rape.

05/18/09 – More Charges Filed

Alison M. Peck is facing additional criminal counts after statutory rape and sodomy charges were filed today in Lawrence county.

Peck allegedly told detectives she first began having sex with the student in January at her residence in Mt. Vernon and at a local in rural Dade County.

05/22/09 – Alison Peck Arrested Again

Alison Peck has been arrested again, this time on allegations of witness tampering and having sex with someone under the age of 14.

It is alleged that on Friday, May 15th that two of Peck’s friends contacted the same student allegedly victimized earlier to set up a meeting.

It is further alleged that the foursome met at the American Inn in Springfield, Missouri and had pizza and that after Peck’s friends left that the boy and Peck had sex and spent the night together at the motel.

Greene County prosecutors charged Peck on Friday with one count of statutory rape and her bond in that county has been set at $200,000.

The Greene County judge also ordered Peck to have no contact with the boy or his family, not to be within 1,000 feet of his home or school, not to have contact with her two friends who admitted taking the boy to Springfield, not to leave Missouri, and to surrender her passport to the sheriff’s department.

06/01/09 – Court Hearing

At a court hearing this morning to decide conditions of Alison Peck’s release from the Greene County Jail, Robert Torp, attorney for Alison M. Peck, told the judge, “She understands she needs to follow the court’s orders, and I’m confident she will”.

Torp argued that Peck should be released on her own recognizance, as her family is reportedly “tapped out” from having paid earlier bond amounts of $25,000 and $100,000.

Prosecutors have requested a $200,000 bond be set.

The judge took the matter under advisement.

06/22/09 – Preliminary Hearing Waived

Alison Peck waived her preliminary hearing Monday in Greene County Associate Court.

Peck is reportedly being held in the Greene County Jail in lieu of $200,000 bond.

Her arraignment in circuit court is set for Friday.

Peck’s case in Dade County is scheduled for preliminary hearing Tuesday afternoon.

Rose Marie Roberts, 50, a substitute teacher in the Batesville, Arkansas school system has reportedly been arrested on allegations of allegedly kissing and rubbing the groin of some students.

Roberts is also alleged to have also exposed herself to children in her classroom.

According to the Batesville Daily Guard, Roberts is being charged with three counts of felony second-degree sexual assault and her bond has been set at $100,000.

A school district spokesperson has been reported as saying that Roberts had been removed from the roster of substitute teachers.

Reportedly, deputies say that Rose had a criminal history including arrests for drunken driving, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.

Superintendent Ted Hall indicated that the school did a background check on Rose, but the law requires officials to let substitute teachers work as they await the results.

Anita Reehal, 37, a sixth-grade teacher at Springmill Intermediate School in Mansfield, Ohio has been charged with disseminating matter harmful to juveniles on allegations that she talked with students about sex acts.

Reehal, reportedly a first year teacher with with Mansfield City Schools, was placed on paid administrative leave February 3.

The charge Reehal is facing is a first-degree misdemeanor and she could receive up to six months in jail if convicted.

According to the Mansfield News Journal quoted defense attorney Mark Collins as saying:

“Our belief is this is an internal school situation. We don’t think it rises to the level of a criminal offense. We look forward to zealously getting her side of the story out, so to speak.”

Collins went on to point out that Reehal did not give or hand out anything and that she is being charged for verbally answering students questions, albeit in a manner that was “considered potentially inappropriate”.

Mansfield Police Detective Jeff Shook criticized the school administration after he had to subpoena school officials twice to get information he requested regarding Reehal.

Mansfield School Superintendent Lloyd Martin and Patricia Robinson, Executive Director of Human Resources, have been charged with obstructing official business.

Both Martin and Robinson have pleaded not guilty to the charge and are scheduled for a bench trial on May 7th. If convicted they could face up 90 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.

Sometimes a person can not help but wonder “What are the cops and prosecutors are smoking?”

This is one such case.

Everything about this case points toward a lapse in professional judgment on the part of a teacher whose “transgression” should have been handled by corrective action on the part of the school system, not with a criminal charge, courts and lawyers.

Apparently law enforcement and prosecutors in Mansfield, Ohio have a lot of idle time on their hands and are always on the lookout for something, anything, to prosecute.

One can only wonder if a massive crackdown on jaywalking will be next…

04/29/09 – Reehal Among Teachers Cut

Anita Reehal is among the 29 teachers who reportedly lost their jobs when the Mansfield City Schools Board of Education enacted a reduction in force.

According to WMFD, Reehal’s trial is now set for June 22nd.
