Ronald Norris, 57, of Derby, New York, a former English teacher at Frontier High School has been sentenced to 78 months in federal prison, 5 years supervised release, and a fine of $24,000 as a result of his guilty plea to a felony charge of knowing possession of child pornography on January 4, 2008.

Norris’ arrest was the result of an investigation conducted by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, (ICE).

As part of the plea deal, Norris agreed to surrender his New York state teaching and administrator certificates to the New
York State Department of Education.

Michelle Morano, 34, a former English teacher at West Essex Regional High School in North Caldwell, New Jersey has been sentenced for having sex with a 17-year-old special education student.

Morano pleaded guilty last month to twice having sex with the boy beginning in late 2006 .

Saying, “There is a difference between justice and vengeance”, Judge Donald J. Volkert Jr. sentenced Morano to three years’ probation rather than the one year in jail sought by the prosecutor.

The teaching certificates of Morano, who has been suspended without pay since her arrest in March of 2007, will be revoked.

Morano came to the attention of authorities while they were questioning the 17-year-old about an auto theft ring involving students at the school.

In addition to the prosecutor seeking a jail term for Morano, the victim’s mother also pleaded with the judge that he sentence Morano to jail time.

Harold Earl (Bo) Scallon, 60, a former English teacher at Rusk High School in Rusk, Texas has been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of distribution and possession of material involving the sexual exploitation of minors.

It is alleged that a forensic analysis of Scallon’s computer revealed visual depictions of more than 150 images involving minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

If convicted of the charges Scallon faces up to 20 years and a fine not to exceed $250,000 for each count.

3/19/08 - Scallon to Await Trial in Jail

Harold Scallon last week waived his right to his initial court appearance and detention hearing indicating that he will remain jailed until trial.

04/10/08 - Guilty Plea

On Tuesday Harold “Bo” Earl Scallon Jr. pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography.

Scallon admitted to possessing 196 images involving the sexual exploitation of minors.

He faces up to 10 years in prison when sentenced.

06/17/08 - Sentencing

Harold Earl (Bo) Scallon has been sentenced to six and a half years in prison on his guilty plea to possessing child pornography.

Pointing out his 29 years as a teacher Scallon asked the judge to sentence him below the 78-97 month sentencing range and place him on supervised release but the judge was not buying it.

Scallon must register as a sex offender.

Thomas Arthur Beltran, 60, a seventh-grade English teacher at Lincoln Middle School in Santa Monica, California has been arrested on suspicion of sexually abusing at least four female students, according to police.

Beltran came to the attention of authorities on Friday when a 12-year-old girl accompanied by her parents, told Detectives she had been repeatedly molested by her school teacher and in the classroom. During the course of the interview detectives came to the conclusion that there are possibly additional victims.

As the investigation expanded investigators found three other girls, all 12-years-old, who made similar allegations including one who said that she had been molested for more than a year.

Beltran was booked on suspicion of lewd and lascivious acts involving children under the age of 14 and continuous sexual abuse of a child under the age of 14, with his bail set at $1.1 million.

Beltran has reportedly been with the school district for 30 years and taught at Lincoln Middle School for 20 years.

06/06/08 - Additional Charges

Thomas Beltran, already facing 14 felony charges alleging the sexual abuse of five girls, is being charged with nine additional counts alleging lewd acts with a child and continuous sexual abuse involving three more girls.

Beltran remains jailed with bail set at $3.3 million and possibly going higher with the new charges.

The latest set of charges allege the girls were sexually abused between 2000 and 2004.

The original set of charges against Beltran allege the crimes occurred between 2004 and April 30 of this year.

Janmattie Singh, 22, an English teacher at Richmond Hill High School in Queens, New York has been arrested and charged with third-degree rape and endangering the welfare of a child.

It alleged that Singh had sex with a 15-year-old male student and his two 18-year-old cousins.

Allegedly Singh called one of the 18-year-old boys, reportedly a former student, in January indicating she wanted to have sex with the boy. It is further alleged that when the boy told Singh he couldn’t get away because he was with his two cousins. Investigators say that Singh then went to the Brooklyn home where the boys were and had sex with them.

It is also alleged that a month later Singh had sex with the two older boys at her apartment.

Singh’s lawyer says that she was victimized by the boys.

Singh’s attorney said that after suffering a nervous breakdown Singh was on medication at the time she had sex with the teenagers, referring to the boys as “three sexual predators” and said that they were aware that Singh was on prescription drugs at the time they invited her to their place.

Singh was arraigned and following arraignment was held on $7,500 bond.

If convicted of all charges she faces a maximum of four years in prison.
