Calvin Clifford Collum II, 47, an English teacher at Sleepy Eye High School in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota has been arrested on allegations of having sexual contact with a 16-year-old female student.

Collum was arrested on a charge of Third Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct involving a person in position of authority.

It is alleged that Collum engaged in an improper relationship with the 16-year-old female student between February 1 and March 10, 2009.

Collum came to the attention of authorities after classmates of the girl noticed that Collum and the student spending a significant amount of time together. Classmates also reported that the girl had plans to move to Connecticut and raise a family with Collum once she turned 19.

Reportedly, the alleged victim admitted to having sex with Collum at his residence within the past two weeks. It is further alleged that on more than one occasion, the girl asked her friends to cover for her so she could spend the weekend at Collum’s residence.

Collum has reportedly been suspended with pay by the school system.

Following his arraignment on Thursday, Collum was freed on bond.

Collum’s next court date is set for March 24th.

03/31/09 – School Board Votes No To Contract Renewal

The Sleepy Eye School District has voted not to renew the contract of Calvin Collum for the 2009 – 2010 school year.

05/18/09 – Calvin Collum Arrested Again

Calvin Clifford Collum has reportedly been arrested again, on allegations of shoplifting and running from police.

Reportedly, police believe that Collum stole three shirts from a mall sporting goods store.

09/30/09 – Guilty Plea

Calvin Collum has reportedly pleaded guilty to one count of criminal sexual conduct in the third degree.

Sentencing is set for November 10th.

11/10/09 – Sentencing

Calvin Collum has been sentenced to 180 days in jail and 15 years of probation.

In addition, Collum’s teaching license was revoked this morning in a Brown County Courtroom.

Nina Urban, an English teacher at Lucas-Luray High School in Lucas, Kansas has been arrested on allegations that she had a sexual relationship with a male student.

After an investigation by the sheriff’s office and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, an arrest warrant was issued Thursday and Urban turned herself in to the sheriff’s office.

Reportedly Urban is facing a charge of unlawful sexual relations.

Urban came to the attention of authorities when the boy’s parents contacted the sheriff’s office with allegations that their son had been having a sexual relationship with Urban.

Following her arrest and booking, Urban was reportedly released on $10,000 bond.

Urban, who according to the school web site, is in her first year with the school has been placed on administrative leave.

01/31/09 – Case Update

Reportedly Nina Urban is set for arraignment on February 12th.

According to Salina.com:

Russell County Sheriff John Fletcher serves on the Lucas-Luray School Board with board member David Urban.

He would not comment Thursday on whether the two Urbans are related or discuss any other details about the case.

02/13/09 – Arraignment

Nina Urban made her initial appearance in Russell County District Court for arraignment on Thursday.

A preliminary hearing date was not set during Thursday’s hearing but will be set later.

Urban remains free on $10,000 bond.

11/04/09 – Guilty Plea

Nina Urban has reportedly pleaded guilty to a felony count of unlawful sexual relations.

Sentencing is set for January 5th.

Deirdre Peterson, 41, an English teacher at Fortuna Union High School in Fortuna, California has been charged with felony unlawful intercourse with a minor and annoying or molesting a minor.

Peterson is alleged to have had sex with an underage male student during June of this year.

Peterson who came to the attention of authorities around September 18th has been placed on administrative leave by the school system.

Reportedly Dierdre Peterson’s husband is an Algebra teacher at Fortuna Union High School.

10/02/08 – Warrant Issued, Surrender Expected

Reportedly a felony warrant with a bond of $35,000 was issued for Peterson on Wednesday and she has until Thursday afternoon to turn herself in .

10/03/08 – Surrender and Release on Bond

Deirdre Peterson turned herself into the Humboldt County jail just before noon Thursday and posted $35,000 bail.

10/08/08 – Court Appearance

Today Deirdre Peterson made a court appearance and enter not guilty pleas to the charges.

Peterson remains free on $35,000 bond.

According to a report in the “Times-Standard”:

According to court documents, the student, John Doe, first made the allegations against Peterson to one of his classmates, then repeated them to a pastor at Fortuna’s Calvary Christian Center. According to the same documents, Peterson admitted to the pastor that she’d had sex with John Doe, but her husband later said Peterson had been physically, psychologically and emotionally raped.

In an earlier edition the “Times-Standard” had reported that a female friend of Peterson’s reportedly told investigators that Peterson confided in her about the affair, first telling her she’d had sex with a student and asking her to guess which one. After disclosing John Doe’s identity, Peterson reportedly told her friend the sex with him had been “freaking amazing,” the friend told investigators.

11/13/08 – Preliminary Hearing

On Thursday a preliminary hearing was held for Deirdre Peterson.

The hearing featured the testimony of a Fortuna Police Department detective who detailed the evidence for the judge who ruled there was sufficient evidence for the case to proceed to trial.

Peterson is scheduled for arraignment December 2nd.

08/14/09 – Jury Says Hung On 2 Counts, Not Guilty On One Count

The jury in the trial of Deirdre Marie Peterson found her not guilty on a charge of oral copulation with a minor.

The jury was deadlocked at 6 to 6 on the count of unlawful sexual intercourse and was deadlocked 8 to 4 on the charge of molesting or annoying a minor, with the majority voting for guilty.

A new trial on the two remaining charges is set for October 5th.

11/02/09 – Second Trial Underway

The second trial of Deirdre Marie Peterson on charges of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, and molesting or annoying a minor is set to get underway today with jury selection.

Jurors previously found Peterson not guilty of a charge of oral copulation with a minor after her August trial. The jury could not reach a verdict on two other charges, both of which will be the focus of the retrial. The jury deliberated for about a week before stating they were “hopelessly deadlocked.”
