Jesus Vega Barcenas, 26, a substitute teacher at Adams Elementary School in Wapato, Washington has been arrested on suspicion of having sex with a 12 year old student.

Reportedly Barcenas taught fifth-grade at the school for several years and this year is working as a substitute at the same school.

Police allege that the suspect met the victim at Adams Elementary when she was 11-years-old, had sex with her at least five times over the course of a year including once in his classroom, began dating her mother and ultimately moved into their home. He came to the attention of authorities when the girl informed her mother of the alleged sexual abuse and the mother called police.

12/26/07 – Barcenas Officially Charged

Jesus Barcenas has been charged in Yakima County Superior Court on two counts of first-degree child rape and three counts of second-degree child rape.

Court documents indicate that the alleged victim told police that Barcenas “brainwashed” her into engaging in sex acts with him in his classroom and at her home for more than a year. Reportedly she also told police that he continued having sex with her after he began dating her mother and moved into their home this summer.

Reportedly the girl has told investigators that Barcenas once had sex with her in her mother’s bedroom.

Bail for Jesus Barcenas was set at $200,000 with trial reportedly set for February 11th.

10/28/09 – Trial Underway

Jurors are hearing opening arguments this morning in the trial of Jesus Barcenas accused of having sex with a pre-teen student.

Barcenas facing two counts of first-degree child rape and three counts of second-degree child rape.

The trial scheduled to last through next week.

11/05/09 – Split Verdict

A jury has found Jesus Vega Barcenas guilty on two counts of second-degree rape of a girl, now 14, whom he first met in a third-grade after-school program.

The jury found him not guilty of two counts of first-degree child molestation and one count of second-degree rape.

A sentencing date for Vega Barcenas has not been set.

Thomas Bavedas, 38, a former third-grade teacher at Waltersville School in Bridgeport, Connecticut has been arrested and charged on allegations that the raped a girl under the age of 16 on three separate occasions between 2001 and 2005.

Two days prior to being charged with the rape allegations, Bavedas was charged with possession of marijuana, cocaine and drug paraphernalia and released on $30,000 bond. Following his Friday arrest on three counts of first-degree sexual assault and three counts of risk of injury to a minor Bavedas was released on $100,000 bond.

Reportedly Bavedas, on the advice of his attorney, resigned from his job following his arrest on the drug charges.

The relationship between Bavedas and the alleged victim has not been revealed, however it is reported that Bavedas is known to the girl’s family.

07/17/08 – Another Arrest, Child Porn Charges

Thomas Bavedas was arrested again today, this time on allegations that he had more than 60,000 still photographs and more than 3,000 video images of child pornography on his home computer.

The latest allegations against Bavedas are the result of an examination of Bavedas’ computer by the Milford Police Department Computer Crimes Unit. The computer was seized at the time of his initial arrest.

Stephen Wayne Sudduth, 34, of Sealy, Texas, a former elementary school teacher in the Katy Independent School District in Katy, Texas has been indicted by an Austin County grand jury on 30 counts of possession of child pornography and 10 counts of promotion of child pornography.

Sudduth came to the attention of authorities by way of a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in July. Sudduth was arrested the following day at a relative’s house.

At the time of his arrest, Sudduth was going to teach 5th graders at Tobias Elementary in Hays CISD. After the arrest, he reportedly resigned, for personal reasons.

According to the Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott’s Cyber Crimes Unit, investigators found more than 57,000 images and 1,000 videos during a forensic examination of Sudduth’s computers and external media devices.
