Matthew Gantz, 41, a drama teacher at Cherokee High School in Canton, Georgia has been arrested on allegations that he sexually assaulted a 17-year-old female student.

Gantz is charged with two counts of sexual assault and one count of tampering with evidence.

The alleged victim has told investigators that the sexual assaults began in 2007.

Following his arrest, Gantz was being held in the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office Adult Detention Center in lieu of $30,000 bail.

09/30/08 - Another Alleged Victim and More Charges

Matthew Gantz is now facing three new counts of sexual assault of a person in custody on allegations that he had a sexual relationship in 2005 with a second female student.

As a result of the new charges, bail for Gantz was reportedly raised to $60,000 and more charges are possible.

Gantz resigned from the school on Monday.

12/21/08 - Guilty Plea and Sentencing

Matthew Gantz has pleaded guilty to two counts of sodomy and was sentenced to 20 years, with six years to serve in prison.

Gamtz will be required to register as a sex offender and to pay $2,000 restitution for counseling for each victim.

Jack Wayne McLaughlin, 71, a tenured teacher who taught theater at San Jacinto High School in San Jacinto, California has been arrested on allegations of molesting a boy at his school.

It is alleged that McLaughlin had been molesting the boy for about nine months, beginning when the boy was under 14-years-old.

McLaughlin charged with two counts of oral copulation with a person under 16 and four counts of lewd and lascivious behavior with a child under 14.

McLaughlin remains in custody in lieu of $50,000 bail and he is set for arraignment on Monday.

He has been placed on administrative leave by the school system.

10/13/08 - Guilty Plea

On October 2, Jack W. McLaughlin pleaded guilty to two counts of committing a lewd act on a child 14 or 15 by a defendant at least 10 years older.

Sentencing is set for December 1st and Riverside County Superior Court Judge Dennis McConaghy has already indicated that he feels that the case calls for probation, provided nothing “unusual” is found during a court ordered psych evaluation of McLaughlin.

12/15/08 - Sentencing

Today Jack Wayne McLaughlin was sentenced to 20 months in prison.

A probation officer and court psychologist recommended McLaughlin be placed probation, rather than serve jail or prison time.

McLaughlin will reportedly be required to register as a sex offender.

Leanne Elizabeth Macklin, 26, a former drama teacher at the Weaver Academy in Greensboro, North Carolina has been arrested and charged with having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old male student.

It is alleged that Macklin engaged in oral sex with the student several times at her apartment.

Macklin is charged with five counts alleging sexual activity between school personnel and a student.

Reportedly the student’s parents had letters from Macklin to their son containing statements such as “You made me feel needed and trusted and loved.”

In June Macklin resigned from the school where she has worked since 2005.

Following her booking Macklin was released on $25,000 bond.

07/30/08 - Additional Information

Additional information has come available, including court documents which reveal the extent of the alleged illicit relationship between Macklin and the boy including that the alleged victim told detectives that he and Macklin engaged in mutual oral sex as well as sexual intercourse on multiple occasions and always at her apartment.

The documents also reveal that police have Macklin’s phone records which allegedly reveal a large number of calls between Macklin and the alleged victim.

Also confiscated by police were Macklin’s “journals” which alleged contain references to the relationship between Macklin and the boy.

It was also reported today that Weaver Academy school administrators investigated the allegations against Macklin twice, but couldn’t find any information either time. It is also reported that Macklin came to the attention of police by way of the alleged victims parents and not any action on the part of school administrators.

12/12/008 - Grand Jury Indictment

Leanne Macklin has been indicted by a grand jury on 5 counts of felony sex offense with a student.

The District Attorney’s office has not set a trial date for the case and Macklin remains free on bond.
