Guilty

Dennis Joseph Jasso, 34, a former assistant band director at Sam Houston High School in San Antonio, Texas has been indicted by a federal grand jury on two counts of distributing child pornography and one count of possessing child pornography.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office indicates that when the FBI agents searched Jasso’s home in December 2007 they seized his computer and a subsequent examining of that computer revealed approximately 27,000 images of alleged child pornography and approximately 1,000 video clips of of alleged child pornography.

Jasso is alleged to have what authorities are calling “the largest stash of child pornography ever seen in San Antonio”.

A spokesperson for the San Antonio School District says that Jasso taught at Sam Houston from August 2006 through May 2007. The school spokesperson indicates that school administrators do not believe that Jasso victimized any students.

Reportedly Jasso has not been working as a teacher since the end of the last school year and has been selling real estate and working part time at a Target store.

In conjunction with his indictment, FBI agents took Jasso into custody on Friday and a federal judge ruled that Jasso remain jailed until a bail hearing Wednesday.

According to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in San Antonio, upon conviction, Jasso faces between 5 and 20 years in federal prison on each distribution
charge and up to 20 years in federal prison on the possession charge.

11/20/09 – Guilty Plea and Sentencing

In February, Dennis Jasso pleaded guilty to distributing child pornography. As part of the plea deal, prosecutors agreed to drop a second count of distributing child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography.

Dennis Jasso has now been sentenced to eight years and four months in federal prison.

In addition, once released from prison, Jasso will be under 50 years of supervised release and have to register as a sex offender.

Chris Mirante, a former music teacher at at Marshall Academy in Holly Springs, Mississippi has reportedly been sentenced for the sexual abuse of two female students.

Mirante, who was found guilty in September on four counts of touching a child for lustful purposes, was sentenced to two years in prison, two years house arrest and five years probation.

In addition, Mirante must undergo psychological therapy while incarcerated and will be required to register as a sex offender once released from prison.

Chris Mirante was arrested in September, 2008 and initially held on one count of sexual battery involving a juvenile and one count of molestation involving another girl. Following his arrest, Mirante was released from jail after posting a $50,000 bond.

Tyler Bigham, 22, band director for DeSoto Central High School in Southaven, Mississippi has reportedly been arrested on allegations of having sex with a 17-year-old female student.

Bigham is reportedly charged with sexual battery with bond set at $200,000.

Allegedly police officers caught Bigham in the act of having sex with the girl at Snowden Grove baseball complex in Southaven.

Reportedly, Bigham is being held in the Desoto County Jail in lieu of bond.

He faces a maximum of 30 years in prison if convicted.

11/12/09 – Bigham Released on Bond
