Casey Lee Helms, 32, a former drama teacher at Gravette High School in Gravette, Arkansas has pleaded guilty to second-degree sexual assault of a 17-year-old female student.
As a result of Helms’ guilty plea he has been sentenced to seven years in prison, must register as a sex offender after release and undergo sex offender treatment.
Helms was arrested March 21 after the girl’s mother reported her concerns that Helms might have had an inappropriate relationship with her daughter. The girl’s mother told investigators that she was reviewing her daughter’s cellphone bill and noticed text messages and calls to two numbers at different times of the day.
At a meeting between the girl, her mother, school officials and Helms he denied any relationship with the girl and also denied that the numbers on the girl’s phone bill were his. He was told to place his cell phone on the table and the a number from the phone bill was dialed and his cell phone rang.
Helms was confronted and told to refrain from contact with the girl who was removed from his class. Subsequently the girl’s mother caught her with a cell phone allegedly supply by Helms. One text message from March 19 was found on the phone. It read,” Me too. I can’t wait to get you all to myself.” The girl initially denied a sexual relationship between herself and Helms but later admitted such a relationship to her mother.
Under questioning by investigators Helms allegedly admitted the relationship.

Sounds like the school officials were proactive in addressing the situation. They are to be greatly respected if so. Many school districts will go to great lengths to cover up this behavior. The truth always comes out in the end.
