Carlos D. Araiza, a Spanish teacher at Terra Nova High School in Pacifica, California has been arraigned in federal court on child pornography charges.
On April 2, Araiza was indicted by a federal grand jury on one count of receiving child pornography and one count of possessing child pornography.
The offenses are alleged have occurred in 2005.
Araiza has pleaded not guilty and is scheduled to appear in court for a detention hearing today.
Araiza has been placed on administrative leave by the school system.
10/09/08 - Sentencing
Carlos Araiza, who pleaded guilty in June to a count of receiving child pornography, has been sentenced to five years in federal prison.
The prosecution sought a sentence of 6 and a half years in prison.

five years in federal prison for receiving child pornography.

As a student of Mr. Araiza when he got arrested, I was pretty disturbed when I heard. It was terrible cause a lot of kids liked him and trusted him, I really hope it is not true. Half the school makes terrible jokes about it now, and the other half doesn’t want to hear it. The school didn’t address the issue at all!!! It took them two weeks to find a suitable sub for the next 2 months. The least they could have done was sent out a letter to parents of his students.

(Deleted by site moderator) Your gut is not necessarily the ultimate judge of character. First of all, you knew him for forty-five minutes out of the day, same as I did. Did you ever noticed that he made us learn those stupid salsa dances more often than he taught Spanish? Did you also see that he always picked the same girl as his partner every time? Mr. Araiza definitely does NOT deserve to be on a website called “badbadteacher.com”. As a former student of Mr. Araiza, I believe that these accusations must be incorrect. I fully stand behind Mr. Araiza and his innocence. He was a wonderful teacher when I was his student and he has and will continue to be my favorite and most memorable teacher.
