Brian Egan, 40, an English teacher at S.S. Seward High School in Village of Florida, New York has reportedly been arrested on allegations of having oral sex with a female student in the school on multiple occasions.
Egan is reportedly charged with felony criminal sexual act in the third degree.
It is alleged that the incidents occurred during after-school activities on several occasions between September 2004 and April 2005. The alleged victim was 16-years-old at the time.
Following arraignment, Egan was being held in the Orange County Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 bond.
His next court date is set for October 22nd.
10/16/09 – State Opens Investigation
Reportedly, the state Education Department has opened up an investigation into the alleged conduct of Brian Egan. The investigation came as the result of notification by the state Division of Criminal Justice Services.
Education Department spokeswoman Jane Briggs said that charges of this nature result in immediate suspension or reassignment, however she did not know if Egan was still in the classroom or employed by the Florida School District.
The Florida School District has previously refused to disclose that information.
10/22/09 – Court Appearance
Brian Egan has made a court appearance and pleaded not guilty to a single count of committing a third-degree sexual act.
Egan remains free on $2,500 bail.
