Brian Edward Cody, 31, a former social studies teacher at Manvel Junior High School in Alvin, Texas has been sentenced to 12 years in prison after admitting that he had a sexual relationship with seventh-grade male student.

Cody pleaded guilty yesterday to charges of aggravated sexual assault of a child and improper educator-student contact.

Cody came to the attention of authorities after the boy’s parents learned of a sex act between their son and Cody. The sex act was alleged to have occurred on November 16, 2006 at a time when the boy was younger than 14-years-old. Cody was fired by the Alvin Independent School District at the time that charges were filed.

As part of the plea agreement between Cody and prosecutors, he waived his right to appeal.
