Brenton James Unferth

Brenton James Unferth, 38, a physical education teacher at Sitting Bull Middle School in Apple Valley, California was arrested in November, 2008 and charged with lewd and lascivious acts with a 15-year-old female who is a former student.

Unferth came to the attention of police when the alleged victim’s family members contacted law enforcement regarding inappropriate contact between the victim and suspect after viewing text messages on the victim’s phone.

Unferth was the victim’s teacher during her 7th and 8th grade school years and investigators believe that the lewd acts took place several times since early 2008.

In January, Unferth entered a plea of not guilty to one felony count of lewd or lascivious acts with a child at his arraignment in Victorville Superior Court.

Unferth was reportedly placed on administrative leave by the school system when the allegations arose in November.

He is currently free on bond.
