Amy Elder, 28, a teacher and softball coach at Ripley High School in Ripley, Tennessee has been arrested and charged with sexual battery and statutory rape on allegations that she had a sexual relationship with at least two girls at the school over the past two years.

It is alleged that Elder had a sexual relationship with a 17 year-old girl from September to October 2006 and another sexual encounter with her on Christmas Day of 2006.

It is further alleged that Elder had another sexual relationship with a 15 year-old girl from March to June 2007 and another sexual encounter with the girl on News Year’s Eve 2007 and that the relationship continued between January and March of 2008.

Reportedly Elder was released from jail, without bond.

Her trial is scheduled to begin October 21st.

10/23/08 - Trial Concluded - Guilty Verdict

Amy Elder tried for sexual battery and statutory rape by an authority figure has been convicted on lesser charges of child abuse.

Sentencing is set for December and Elder faces up to 11 months and 29 days in jail on each of 9 counts.

Elder is also scheduled for another trial for the sexual abuse of a second victim. That trial is currently set for February.

    I went to High School with her. She always seemed to be a little weird and I’m not surprised that this happened to her.

    Why is it when a female PE teacher get busted for having a “special” relationship with a student, most of the time it’s with a female student?

    $50,000 to be exact and that was with fewer indictments and only one complainant.

    What are the chances that a man charged with a similar crime would be ROR. Any man would be dishing out tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars.
