(1/07/08 - Initial BBT Report)
Allan Matthew Coyle, 32, former band director at Currituck County High School in Barco, North Carolina has been arrested and charged with 12 counts of sexual misconduct with a 17-year-old female band member.

Coyle is charged with six counts each of committing a sexual offense with a student and taking indecent liberties with a student.
Following his arrest Coyle was released from Currituck County Detention Center Saturday morning after posting a $240,000 secured bond.
Coyle came to the attention of authorities after the student and her parents reportedly made accusations against him.
Coyle resigned his position with the school one day before his arrest. He had worked for the school system since 2002. Coyle’s wife is the school’s color guard director.
07/22/08 - Guilty Plea
Allan Coyle in a plea deal with prosecutors has pleaded guilty to taking indecent liberties with a student, not with “a minor”.
The judge has sentenced Coyle to at least one year in prison.
Coyle however will NOT have to register as a sex offender as the offense to which he pleaded does not require it and the plea deal with prosecutors specifically asked that sex offender registration not be an option at sentencing.
Reportedly the victim and her family agreed with the deal.

Bad news for Allan. As a result of mass hysteria around “sex offenders” in this country, our Federal government signed the Adam Walsh Child Safety Act into law in 2006. It gives each state until 2009 to implement their own laws in accordance with this federal law. See this link for the guidelines set forth by the US Department of Justice. http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/smart/guidelines.htm
I say this is bad news for Allan, because REGARDLESS of what he negotiated with prosecutors, based on this law ALL sex offenders WILL have to register and WILL be placed on the Internet. The US Atty General determined that applying this law retroactively (convictions prior to their state’s implementation of the law…as is the case in Allan’s case)is NOT punitive, rather it furthers the government’s efforts towards enhancing public safety. SO…..Allan should enjoy not registering until North Carolina implements the law. Then he gets to have his PICTURE, HOME ADDRESS, WORK ADDRESS, CONVICTION OFFENSE, all shown for the world to see on the INTERNET!
This law SUCKS!!!! Good luck to you Allan.
