Alex Garza, 27, a former Spanish teacher at Moses Lake High School in Moses Lake, Washington has been charged with sexual misconduct with a minor in the first degree and tampering with a witness.

It is alleged that Garza sexually assaulted a 16-year-old girl. The alleged victim reportedly told friends later she was pregnant with Garza’s child.
Garza came to the attention of authorities when one of the victim’s friends turned in a series of notes the victim wrote to her seeking advice about the possible child.
Garza was placed on paid administrative leave and subsequently the school system did not renew his contract for the 2008-2009 school year.
Garza has pleaded not guilty to the charges last month and is scheduled for trial on March 17th.

Alex Garza has reportedly pleaded guilty to assault in the fourth degree, in a plea deal with prosecutors.
Garza, originally charged with sexual misconduct with a minor in the first degree and tampering with a witness was sentenced to 240 hours of community service.
Chief Deputy Prosecutor Ed Owens attributed the plea deal to the victim not responding to letters or phone calls for the last month and a half.
