Alberto Gomez Vicuna Jr, 32, a math teacher at Gilroy High School in Gilroy, California has been arrested on allegations that he sexually assaulted a 14-year-old female whom he met n an Internet social networking site called Tagged.com.
Vicuna came to the attention of authorities when the girl’s parents informed them that Vicuna was having sex with a minor.
According to a press release by the San Jose Police Department:
The San Jose Police Department’s Child Exploitation Detail conducted a thorough investigation of the allegations and detective learned that the suspect was currently teaching math at Gilroy High School in Gilroy. CA.
During the investigation it was determined that the suspect had sexual encounters with the victim. The victim did not attend Gilroy High School.
Vicuna reportedly provided tutoring services to students on and off campus and allegedly had over one hundred “female” friends on this Internet social networking site, all between the ages of 13 and 17 years old.

02/27/09 – Arraignment
Alberto Vicuna Jr. was arraigned today on nine counts alleging sex crimes against a 14-year-old girl.
Bail for Vicuna was set in the amount of $2 million and he remains in police custody in lieu of bail.
03/06/09 – Plea Hearing Continued
Alberto Gomez Vicuna Jr. appeared in court for a plea hearing today, however the hearing was continued to April 30 in Department 23 of San Jose’s Hall of Justice.
Vicuna remains in custody in lieu of $2 million bail.
05/05/09 – No Contest Plea
In a plea deal with prosecutors, Alberto Gomez Vicuna Jr. has pleaded no contest to lewd and lascivious act on a child, oral copulation with a minor, sexual penetration of a person under the age of 16 and unlawful sexual intercourse with a person under the age of 16.
Under the terms of the plea deal, five additional charges were dropped.
Vicuna remains in custody in lieu of $2 million bail.
Sentencing is set for June 2nd and Vicuna faces a maximum of 10 years in prison.
06/03/09 – Sentencing
Alberto Gomez Vicuna Jr. has reportedly been sentenced to one year in county jail.
Vicuna’s jail sentence is to be followed by three years of probation and lifetime registration as a sex offender.
