We created Categories on Bad Bad Teacher with a goal of enhancing our readers’ ease of use.
We now include in all posts the state in which the referenced teacher works or worked.
When the teacher’s specialty (i.e. Art, English etc) is known that too is categorized.
We have categories for “Elementary Schools” and “Middle Schools”, Junior High Schools” and “High Schools” although there is no hard and fast rule as to what differentiates one from the other. We simply go with what was reported in the news media in the school’s locale.
Since teachers often double as coaches, counselors and in other roles when we are aware of multiple roles of teachers we will include them in multiple categories.
The “Hall of Shame” category contains only those school system employees who have either pleaded guilty or have been found guilty by a judge or jury.
The category “School Staff” includes school personnel for which no other category exists.
“Language Arts” teachers are language teachers other than those in the category “English Teachers”.
The category “Science Teachers” designates teachers in biology, chemistry, physics and other scientific areas of education.
The category “Guards and Officers” includes private security guards, law enforcement officers, school resource officers and so forth working at schools.
“Administrators” is also used for school personnel whose job title contains the words “principal”, “assistant principal”, “dean”, “administrator” and so forth.
The category “Teachers - Miscellaneous” is used when we can not determine the specialty of the individual who is the subject of our coverage. Early on we used this designation frequently however its use has been curtailed.
“High Profile Cases” is a category for those cases which are receiving national news media coverage, which are the most frequently viewed on Bad Bad Teacher or both. The inclusion or exclusion of a specific case from this category is a purely subjective decision on the part of the Webmaster.
“Deleted Posts” are those posts which were subsequently determined to be non-applicable to this site.
Over time we have added additional categories including:
“Church Schools” are schools operated under the control or affiliation with a religious organization,
“Private Schools” are schools that are privately owned and operated schools not associated with a religious organization nor operating under the authority of a public school district.
“Charter Schools” are private schools operated under a charter from a public school district.
The category “Not Guilty” denotes cases where the accused was found not guilty by either a judge or jury.
The category “Charges Dropped” denotes that the accused is no longer facing charges previously reported on this site. The dismissal may have taken place due to a variety of reasons including factual innocence, dismissed by the state or dismissed by order of a judge..
We also have several categories to denote the nature of the accused, the alleged victim and in some instances the nature of the offense. These are as follows:
FE-CP - Cases with female school employee and child pornography
FE-FV - Cases with female school employee and female victim(s)
FE-IS-FV - Cases with female school employee and internet sting with female target
