Reader comments submitted to BadBadTeacher.com may be held in a moderation queue awaiting administrator approval before being posted. The moderation queue is reviewed on a regular basis and comments are added to the system in as timely a manner as possible. During certain times, particularly late at night, reader submitted comments may remain in the moderation queue for a few hours. After all, we all have to sleep sometime…
At BadBadTeacher.com we not only welcome comments, we encourage them provided such comments meet certain basic guidelines including:
(1) They are in English and on-topic to the post for which they are submitted.
(2) They do not contain profanity.
(3) They are not spam.
(4) They are not attempts to get attention without offering meaningful commentary upon the subject of the specific article being commented upon.
(5) They do not contain libel or defame parties not accused of a crime.
(6) They do not contain names of victims of crimes, alleged or proven.
(7) They do not contain allegations of criminality against family members, co-workers or associates of those accused of a crime but who themselves are not accused of a crime.
(8) They do not attack other participants here.
(9) It is perfectly acceptable to disagree with anyone’s opinion including those of the operators of this site. It is not acceptable to personally attack anyone who participates here on the basis of their expressed views or the simple fact they participated here. ‘Name calling’, such as referring to others with whom one disagrees as “stupid”, “an idiot” and similar childishness, will likely result in the comment being deleted regardless of the remainder of its content.
(10) The IP address of all leaving comments here is recorded in the system logs, along with the ‘nickname’, e-mail address provided, date and time of the comment submission. Individuals making multiple comments under *different nicknames and/or e-mail addresses* are subject to having all of their comments deleted without posting and without regard to the content of the individual comments. We do not care who you are, but we encourage those leaving comments to ‘play fair’, pick an identity and stick with it if you wish to make multiple comments.
(11) Comments should not be written in all CAPS, as this is considered shouting. Comments in all CAPS will be deleted without further consideration. Comments containing an inordinate amount of CAPS will be addressed on a case by case basis.
(12) System users posting comments under user id’s such as “You Idiots, You Fools, and similar offensive words will have their comments deleted WITHOUT further consideration of the actual content of the comment.
(13) Comments should address the case at hand NOT the ethnic, religious, cultural or racial traits of the principals of the case or the community in which they reside.
When comments are received which, in the sole opinion of the site operator, contain statements violating the basic guidelines above we will *sometimes* attempt to ‘clean’ the comment and allow its posting IF we can do so without altering the basic premise of the commentary. In such cases we will denote the ‘cleaning’ with a notation such as “Deleted by webmaster” replacing the disallowed content. If we can not ‘clean’ the comment sufficiently to permit its posting we will simply delete it without notice.
We understand that the issues dealt with on this site are extremely serious and often inspire great emotion on the part of our readers. In such scenarios it is expected that from time to time comments ‘cross the line’. We can only promise a best effort to keep things clean. Our readers may find objectionable posts and/or commentary on this site. If you feel this is the case, please bring it to our attention and we will attempt to resolve the issue.
By their nature, comments made by the readers of posts to this blog are statements of opinion on the part of the person making the comment. Statements of opinion are not statements of fact and as such, comments should not be viewed as the facts of a case unless the person making the comment has independent knowledge of those facts or the means to verify them.
In an effort to reduce the possibility of forged comments, i.e. comments attributed to persons who did not make them, the use of FULL NAMES in the “Name” field when leaving a comment is DISCOURAGED. As a matter of fact, it is likely that we will simply delete the last name, leaving the first name in place, which of course may lead to some confusion when persons with common first names comment in heavily commented threads. Therefore it would likely be best all around to comment using a distinctive nickname or possibly a first name coupled with a nickname, a number or some other distinctive combination of characters.
From time to time persons that have left comments on this site will request that a comment or comments be deleted. We will honor such request if it is made from the e-mail address which was provided when the comment was posted OR if the e-mail requesting the comment(s) deletion originates from the same IP address as did the comment(s) to be deleted.
It is the policy of this site to comply with all legal subpoenas demanding the IP address associated with specific comments. Persons contemplating leaving a comment should realize that if they defame another person or entity, post information that may be of interest to law enforcement or otherwise post content that is illegal the operator of badbadteacher.com will comply with any subpoena seeking IP address information associated with the specific comment(s).
