Erik Brandon Ross, 43, a former assistant coach of the boys’ basketball at Franklin High School in Highland Park, California has been arrested on suspicion of having sex with a 16-year-old girl from another team.

According to Glendale Police, Ross was arrested Wednesday and booked on suspicion of four counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor and eight counts of oral copulation with a minor.

Reportedly Ross was a temporary employee hired in November as assistant coach of the boys’ basketball team at Franklin High School. In addition he also coached an independent girls’ club basketball team.

Reportedly the alleged victim is not a student at Franklin and was not on the girls’ club team Ross coached.

It is alleged that Ross met the girl while coaching an independent girl’s youth basketball team last summer.

It is further alleged that they exchanged phone numbers and began having a relationship, and that in December of 2008, Ross took the alleged victim to a motel in Glendale, provided alcohol and engaged her sexually over a period of time.

Reportedly Ross was being held in lieu of $480,000 bail.

William “Randy” Sherman II, 36, former girls basketball coach at Carroll Senior High School in Keller, Texas has been sentenced to five years in prison for sexually assaulting one of his players in 2006.

Sherman arrested in 2006 on a charge that he had sex with a then 16-year-old girl, who reportedly slit one of her wrists, shortly after the sexual assault.

Randy Sherman pleaded guilty this month to a charge of sexual assault of a child.

Sherman, who had been out on $5,000 bail, was taken into custody Thursday morning after state District Judge Everett Young sentenced him to prison.

Sherman must serve 2? 1/2 years before he will be eligible for parole

In addition to the prison sentence, Sherman is also required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

Ralph Kelly, 34, of Denver, a teacher at Brighton Collegiate High School in Brighton, Colorado has been arrested for investigation of sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust.

It is alleged that Kelly sexually assaulted an openly gay male student in a classroom at the school in early December.

Kelly who is Irish has taught social studies and German at the school since August posted $20,000 bond but remains in custody at the request of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Brighton Collegiate High School is the new name of the charter school where Carrie McCandless taught and David Mundy, Jr. substitute taught.

McCandless was the wife of the principal when the school was named Brighton Charter Academy. She was sentenced to 45 days in jail last summer for providing alcohol to, and having unlawful sexual contact with a 17-year old student.

Mundy pleaded guilty to charges of sexual assault on a child and contributing to the delinquency of a minor in 2005 for an incident in which he was partying with three girls, ages 14 to 16, at his apartment.

Mundy’s father, David Mundy Sr. who was the school board president pleaded guilty to failure to report child abuse in the McCandless case.

On Friday Immigration and Customs Enforcement lifted the hold it had put on Ralph Kelly.

12/07/07 – Affidavit Released

The nature of the allegations against Kelly came to light today with the release of an affidavit in the case.

It is alleged that Kelly was an aggressive man demanding oral sex from a male high school student by telling him “if you cherish you’re grades you will do what I say”. An apparent implication that Kelly would punish the boys grades if he did not submit to oral sex.

Reportedly Kelly allegedly lured the student into a sexual relationship by pretending to interview him about his openly gay life in school.

12/20/07 – Allegations Arise About “Sex Study” At School

A second boy has come forward and school board President Ken Mitchell is reported as saying he had “heard rumors” of a sex survey.

3/31/08 – Ralph Kelly Going To Trial

A judge has ruled that there is sufficient evidence to try Kelly on a felony count of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust.

Kelly could face a sentence of two to six years if convicted.

05/03/08 – Arraignment Hearing Continued

The arraignment hearing for Ralph Kelly has been continued to May 27th.

06/04/08 – Trial Scheduled

Ralph Kelly is scheduled to go on trial in September.

Kelly remains free on $1 million bond.

11/21/08 – Guilty Plea

Ralph Kelly has pleaded guilty to attempted sexual assault on student by one in a position of trust.

Kelly entered the guilty plea while appearing at a pre-trial conference.

Sentencing is set for January 30th.

01/30/09 – Sentencing

Ralph Kelly, facing a maximum sentence of six years in prison, was instead today sentenced to 90 days in the Adams County Jail.

Once his jail term is completed, Kelly will be deported to Ireland.
