Janelle Marie Bird, 28, a former teacher at East Hill Christian School and Escambia High School in Pensacola, Florida who was convicted in July 2006 of unlawful sexual activity and committing lascivious acts with a 15-year-old male student is starting a two-year prison term.

Officials with the Sheriff’s Office said that the then 24-year-old Bird had an inappropriate relationship with a student she taught at East Hill Christian School.

An investigation began in October, 2005 after the boy’s aunt called school authorities to report the incident.

Janelle Bird is a registered sex offender in the state of Florida.

Bird has remained free on bond after her conviction due to her appeal of her conviction. The appeals court denied her appeal in October and the sentencing judge denied a motion to modify Bird’s sentence on Monday.

Karl Lemart Wells II, 27, a former assistant teacher for exceptional education and former assistant girls’ basketball coach at Western Guilford High School in in Greensboro, North Carolina has been arrested and charged with indecent liberties with a student.

Reportedly Wells came to the attention of authorities after a female student’s mother found a text message on the girl’s phone and notified school officials.

Arrest warrants indicate that Wells did attempt indecent liberties with the student but do not elaborate on the allegation.

Reportedly Wells resigned from his position shortly after the mother notified the school and the girl is no longer a student at Western Guilford High School.

Wells turned himself in to authorities and was released on a written promise to appear.

Paul Milton Knutson, 58, a science teacher at Rogers High School, in Rogers, Arkansas was arrested Friday on sex and drug charges filed in Scottsdale, Arizona for crimes that allegedly occurred between 1983 and 1985.

Little Flock, AR police arrested Knutson at his home in North Dixieland. Knutson was being held in the Benton County Jail awaiting an extradition hearing.

A report in the Arkansas Democrat Gazette quoted Little Flock police Lt. Jesse Martinez as saying, “He didn’t seem surprised at all”, regarding Knutson’s reaction to his arrest.

In a subsequent report in the Fort Smith Times Record the same Little Flock police Lt, Jesse Martinez, is quoted as saying, “He was shocked we were there”.

Knutson is being charged in Scottsdale, AZ with five felony charges, including sexual contact with a minor, furnishing obscene or harmful items to minors, possession and sale of dangerous drugs, possession and sale of marijuana and possession and sale of narcotics.

Reportedly Knutson can still be prosecuted under Arizona law, even for crimes allegedly committed over 20 years ago.
