Anthony Coker, 26, a former assistant football coach at Buhler High School, in Buhler, Kansas has been arrested and charged on allegations that he had unlawful sexual relations with a 17-year-old female student.

Allegedly Coker and the girl had consensual sex on September 16 while the two were not on school grounds.

Under Kansas law, unlawful sexual relations occurs when a teacher or person in a position of authority engages in consensual sex with a 16- or 17-year-old who is a student at the school where the offender works.

Reportedly Coker has resigned from the school and is free on bond with his first court appearance scheduled for November 30th.

2/29/08 – Sentencing

Anthony Coker was today sentenced to 12 months in community corrections for a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old female student.

If Coker violates the terms of his community corrections sentence, he could face 6 months in jail.

Melissa R. Moss, 27, a former English teacher at Barat Academy, independent Catholic high school, in Dardenne Prairie, Missouri has been charged with furnishing pornographic material to a minor.

It is alleged that she sent two topless photos of herself to a 15-year-old male student in November.

Moss, a first year teacher, came to the attention of authorities when the boy’s parents complained to the school and to the police.

The parents, while monitoring their son’s e-mail, discovered the e-mail containing the topless photos, an e-mail which allegedly originated from Moss’ private e-mail account. It was sent to the student during a weekend.

The school, which reportedly has a policy that teachers are not to e-mail students about anything that isn’t school-related, suspended Moss, conducted its own investigation and subsequently fired her.

Moss was charged Tuesday in St. Charles County Circuit Court with furnishing pornographic material to a minor, which is a misdemeanor offense.

Moss’s attorney Michael Kielty says that he doesn’t believe his client committed a crime and that “a woman’s bare breasts in and of themselves as being pornographic seems to be a bit strong”.

Adrian Valdez, 31, a former geography teacher at Crystal Lake Middle School in Pompano Beach, Florida has been sentenced to 13 years in prison the result of his no contest pleas to several counts of lewd and lascivious molestation, lewd and lascivious conduct and lewd and lascivious exhibition.

Valdez was arrested in October 2005.

Quoting from a press released from the Broward Sheriff’s Office:

On October 17th, Adrian Valdez gave detention to a 12-year-old boy in his class at Crystal Lake Middle School in Pompano Beach. At about 5:00 p.m., Valdez offered him a ride home, but instead, Valdez took the boy to his house.

At Valdez’s house, Valdez showed the child a pornographic video and performed a sex act on the boy. Valdez then took the boy home where his family noticed that he was not acting like himself. The boy’s family asked him what was wrong and he told them what had happened.

The boy’s family notified the Sheriff’s Office and after interviewing the boy, investigators arrested Valdez.

Once Valdez had been arrested, another boy, a 14-year-old came forward saying he too had been sexually assaulted by Valdez.

Again quoting from a press release by the Broward Sheriff’s Office:

As a result of publicity generated by the arrest, a 14-year-old boy who said he too had been victimized contacted Broward Sheriff’s Office investigators this week. The boy said the assault occurred on the last day of school, June 2, 2005, when he was a student at Crystal Lake Middle. The boy said Valdez first exposed himself inside a portable classroom and then arranged to meet him in a bank parking lot near the school after class. Valdez drove him to his (Valdez’) home and performed other sexual acts in his bedroom.

Later a third boy came forward accusing Valdez. The third victim was 16-years-old and Valdez was accused of sexually assaulting him in 2002 when Valdez was mentoring the boy.

Following his prison sentence, Valdez must serve three years of house arrest to be followed by 50 years of sex offender probation.
