Dennis Johnson, 27, a seventh-grade world geography teacher at Pine View School For the Gifted in Osprey, Florida has been arrested on allegations that he sexually assaulted a 17-year-old female student.

It is alleged that Johnson had sex with the girl at least twice at his apartment.

Johnson, who had just started his second year of teaching at the school, came to the attention of authorities by way of an anonymous tip regarding the alleged sexual relationship called in to an abuse hot line.

Johnson who allegedly admitted to police that he kissed the girl but denies having sex with her is charged with unlawful sexual activity with a minor and sexual battery and faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted.

Johnson has been placed on administrative leave by the school and following his arrest he was jailed without bond set. Now he is reportedly being held on $10,000 bail.

Kenneth Craig, 28, a former track coach at Las Vegas High School in Las Vegas, Nevada has been arrested on a felony charge of sexual misconduct with a student.

Reportedly Craig worked as a substitute teacher for the Clark County School District from May 2003 to May 2007 and was an assistant track coach at Las Vegas High School from February to May 2006, coaching both boys and girls.

It is alleged that Craig impregnated a then 17-year-old female student and got his girlfriend to pay for an abortion for the girl.

Craig came to the attention of authorities when his now former girlfriend told the current track coach of the alleged sexual contact between Craig and the student, the alleged pregnancy and abortion.

Over the course of a seven month investigation police reportedly recovered hundreds of pages of electronic correspondence between Craig and the then-17-year-old senior from a computer that the girl used. Police also subpoenaed Craig’s MSN hotmail subscriber information and messages which allegedly indicated that Craig feared discovery and knew that the relationship could have criminal consequences.

It is alleged that one message Craig sent to the teen on May 26, 2006 said, “You forget although track is over your still in school … which means if I get caught at your house … that is MY ASS”.

Police say that Craig first had sex with the girl in March 2006 in her parents’ home. Medical records obtained by police through an October 15 grand jury subpoena showed the victim had an abortion on June 22, 2006.

Craig faces a preliminary hearing on February 20. The charge carries a possible sentence of one to five years in prison.

Jennifer Jacobi, 35, of Greenville, Indiana, a former substitute teacher for the New Albany-Floyd County Consolidated Schools has been sentenced to 76 years in prison, with 10 years suspended, on child-molesting charges and still faces sentencing on federal child pornography charges.

Jacobi did substitute teaching at Galena and Mt. Tabor elementary schools, Highland Hills Middle School and New Albany High School.

In pleading guilty to counts of child molesting and conspiracy to commit child molesting Jacobi admitted that she molested a girl twice during a two-year period starting in 2004, when the victim was 8-years-old.

As a result of the plea deal 13 counts of child exploitation were dismissed.

In addition to molesting the child, Jacobi also made arrangements by computer for Richard D. Prado, of Brownville, Maine, to molest the girl. Prado killed himself while in a Maine jail as he was being investigated there.

The 10 federal counts of producing child pornography and one count of possessing child pornography involved children under age 12.

Jacobi has a plea deal with federal prosecutors under which she will plead guilty to two counts of producing child pornography and Assistant U.S. Attorney Gayle Helart will recommend a 35-year prison term that would run concurrent with Jacobi’s state sentence. The federal plea deal must receive a judge’s approval before taking effect.

11/10/07 – Guilty Plea Accepted

U.S. District Judge John D. Tinder accepted Jacobi’s guilty plea in court Thursday and set a sentencing date for December 20. According to Jacobi’s attorney if the judge accepts the 35 year concurrent sentence contained in the plea deal it will give Jacobi the possibility of getting out of prison before she dies.

12/26/07 – Sentencing

On December 20th U.S. District Judge John Daniel Tinder accepted the plea deal arrangement regarding sentencing and formally sentenced Jacobi to 35 years in the federal prison. With “good time”, Jacobi might be eligible for parole in 30 years.
