Michael Stratton, a 25-year-old substitute teacher at Ladysmith High School, in Ladysmith, Wisconsin pleaded guilty Tuesday to two misdemeanor counts of exposing his genitals to a child.

Stratton was accused of soliciting sex both online and on the phone from the two girls, ages 14 and 16. One of the girls is a student at Ladysmith High School, the other Stratton met on a ski trip. He allegedly convinced the girls to expose themselves and he allegedly exposed himself.

As part of his plea deal Stratton was sentenced to three years probation during which he can’t use computers, the internet or have an electronic device that can transmit an image or text message. Additionally Stratton must pay restitution, and cannot have unsupervised contact with female juveniles or the victims.

The prosecuting attorney declined to prosecute on the felony count of using a computer to facilitate a child sex crime.

Aaron T. Gunn III, 32, a former middle school teacher in Clarksdale, Mississippi, convicted of having sex with a 15-year-old student appears to have avoided a felony charge for failing to register as a sex offender for well over two years.

At least Gunn has now registered as a sex offender as he was required to do over two years ago.

Well, sorta’…

According to the Associated Press it seems there may be some confusion as to where Aaron T. Gunn III actually lives.

Coahoma County Sheriff Andrew Thompson said Gunn registered with his department earlier this month, providing a Clarksdale address. A man who answered the phone at the address Sunday said he was Gunn’s father. The man initially said Gunn did not live there. When told that it was the address listed on the sex offender registry, a woman picked up the phone and said Gunn did live there, but was not available.

What makes this interesting is the fact that the Associated Press quotes District Attorney Laurence Mellen as saying that Gunn would not be prosecuted for failing to register unless he provided inaccurate information to the sex offender registry and this in spite of Gunn’s failure to register for over two years as required by law.

District Attorney Mellen does not explain how it is possible for Gunn who apparently claims to be living with his parents can live with his mother but not with his father, when the parents are sharing a single home.

Maybe DA Mellen might want to look into this apparent “inaccurate information” recorded in the official Mississippi sex offender registry. Then again, maybe he would prefer to look the other way as he apparently has been doing for a while now.

In the meantime, hopefully Mr. Gunn and his parents will manage to get their story straight and District Attorney Mellen will uphold the law he swore an oath to uphold.

Jeffrey Anderson, 23, of Northeast Philadelphia, a former substitute teacher at Tohickon Middle School in Plumstead Township who pleaded guilty last month to having sexual contact with two female students, ages 14 and 15-years-old, has committed suicide.

Reportedly Anderson, who was awaiting sentencing this week and was facing a 10 to 20 year prison sentence, asphyxiated himself with a gas stove in a closed room on Saturday.

Sara Webster, Anderson’s attorney said of his death, “Jeff was immature and he used poor judgment in getting involved with girls who were willing participants. The sentence he was facing, at his age, seemed like a death sentence.”

In regard to harsh sentences for sex offenders, Webster went on to state, “I have to believe that these laws were not written with people like Jeff Anderson in mind, people who make one foolish mistake.”

First Assistant District Attorney David Zellis reportedly said, “If he didn’t believe he was being treated fairly, he should have asked for a trial. Mr. Anderson was an adult. Under the law, the girls could not consent. He was in a position of power and authority and he abused that power. Those girls’ parents and the Central Bucks School District trusted him, and he violated that trust.”

Brandy Reynolds, 25, a former teacher at Omaha Baptist Academy in Fremont, Nebraska who last month entered a no contest plea to a charge of attempted first-degree sexual assault of a male student has been sentenced to prison.

Reynolds allegedly had a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old male student beginning in December 2004 and lasting through May 2006.

Reynolds was originally charged with with first-degree sexual assault but in a plea deal pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree sexual assault.

As part of the plea deal between Reynolds and the state prosecutors agreed to make no sentencing recommendation.

District Judge John Samson of Dodge County sentenced Reynolds to four to eight years in prison.
