Michael Mason, a former special education teacher at LBJ High School in Austin, Texas who pleaded guilty to sexual assault of one of his students has been sentenced.

Mason who was indicted on 11 counts by a Travis County grand jury in connection with a sexual assault of a student in September 2004 pleaded guilty to counts of sexual assault of a child and to having an improper relationship between an educator and student.

As a result of his plea deal Mason received 10 years of deferred adjudication, which is basically probation, and will be required to be registered as a sex offender for life.

Crystal Marie Bashford, 21, a teacher at Palm Christian Academy in Port Charlotte, Florida has been arrested on allegations of having sex with a 14-year-old boy.

Bashford was arrested on one count of lewd or lascivious battery. It is alleged that Bashford had sex with the then 14-year-old boy once in November 2006 when she was 20-years-old. The alleged sexual activity had no relation to the Palm Christian Academy.

Reportedly the boy told police Bashford invited him over to stay the night and they were watching TV when she began talking about sex.

Following her arrest Bashford was released from the Sarasota County jail Tuesday morning on $2,500 bail.

Jesse Wayne Gentry, 26, a former teacher Tiger Creek Elementary School in Tunnel Hill, Georgia charged with molesting an 11-year-old girl has entered guilty pleas and been sentenced on two counts of sexual battery.

Following his guilty pleas, Gentry was sentenced to two five-year probation terms to be served consecutively, fined $2,550 and ordered to register as a sex offender. Gentry faced up to 40 years in prison had he gone to trial and been convicted on the child molestation charges.

Gentry was arrested in March of this year on allegations that he fondled the girl on three occasions, between August 2006 and February 2007. The victim was not Gentry’s student and the sexual battery occurred away from the school.

Michael Stratton, a 25-year-old substitute teacher at Ladysmith High School, in Ladysmith, Wisconsin pleaded guilty Tuesday to two misdemeanor counts of exposing his genitals to a child.

Stratton was accused of soliciting sex both online and on the phone from the two girls, ages 14 and 16. One of the girls is a student at Ladysmith High School, the other Stratton met on a ski trip. He allegedly convinced the girls to expose themselves and he allegedly exposed himself.

As part of his plea deal Stratton was sentenced to three years probation during which he can’t use computers, the internet or have an electronic device that can transmit an image or text message. Additionally Stratton must pay restitution, and cannot have unsupervised contact with female juveniles or the victims.

The prosecuting attorney declined to prosecute on the felony count of using a computer to facilitate a child sex crime.

Aaron T. Gunn III, 32, a former middle school teacher in Clarksdale, Mississippi, convicted of having sex with a 15-year-old student appears to have avoided a felony charge for failing to register as a sex offender for well over two years.

At least Gunn has now registered as a sex offender as he was required to do over two years ago.

Well, sorta’…

According to the Associated Press it seems there may be some confusion as to where Aaron T. Gunn III actually lives.

Coahoma County Sheriff Andrew Thompson said Gunn registered with his department earlier this month, providing a Clarksdale address. A man who answered the phone at the address Sunday said he was Gunn’s father. The man initially said Gunn did not live there. When told that it was the address listed on the sex offender registry, a woman picked up the phone and said Gunn did live there, but was not available.

What makes this interesting is the fact that the Associated Press quotes District Attorney Laurence Mellen as saying that Gunn would not be prosecuted for failing to register unless he provided inaccurate information to the sex offender registry and this in spite of Gunn’s failure to register for over two years as required by law.

District Attorney Mellen does not explain how it is possible for Gunn who apparently claims to be living with his parents can live with his mother but not with his father, when the parents are sharing a single home.

Maybe DA Mellen might want to look into this apparent “inaccurate information” recorded in the official Mississippi sex offender registry. Then again, maybe he would prefer to look the other way as he apparently has been doing for a while now.

In the meantime, hopefully Mr. Gunn and his parents will manage to get their story straight and District Attorney Mellen will uphold the law he swore an oath to uphold.
