Joel Whitmore, 40, a math teacher at Lafayette High School, in Lafayette, Louisiana has been arrested on allegations of obscenity and multiple counts of indecent behavior with a juvenile.

Whitmore has been charged with six counts of indecent behavior, four counts of computer-aided solicitation for sexual purposes and one count of obscenity.

Whitmore’s arrest is the result of an internet sting conducted by the Bossier Parish Internet Task Force.

Whitmore is being held on bond of $165,000 will be suspended with pay by the school system pending the investigation and school board action.

Whitmore has worked at the school since 2004 and taught upper-level math courses in probability and statistics, including honors classes.

According to a report by The Daily Advertiser, a “Free Joel Whitmore” group has been started on the social networking site facebook.com in support of Joel Whitmore and contains comments in defense of Whitmore by students.

Teacher Rebecca Becker of Walden, NY and teacher’s aide Maria Zurita of New Windsor, NY, both of whom are 28, have been indicted on charges for allegedly having sexual relations with two 16-year-old male residents of a school run by McQuade Children Services in New Windsor. The school serves children referred by social services, family court and school districts.

Becker (show above left) was indicted on felony charges of third-degree rape and third-degree criminal sexual act and a misdemeanor charge of endangering the welfare of a child..

Zurita (show above right) was indicted on a felony charge of third-degree rape and a misdemeanor charge of endangering the welfare of a child.

The women were arrested on May 30th after the school called police.

The sexual activity between the women and the two boys is alleged to have taken place over the Memorial Day weekend at Zurita’s home.

Both women remain free on $1,000 bonds.

Jeffrey Doland, 45, of Green, Ohio and reportedly the Director of Technology for the Green school district has been arrested in Miami, Florida on allegations of computer pornography and promoting a sexual performance with a child.

Doland was arrested after he flew to Miami believing that he was going to meet a mother who would let him “dunk” her 9- and 12-year-old daughters for $550 as a form of sexual gratification. Allegedly Doland had been communicating on-line in a Yahoo chat room with a US Secret Service agent posing as the “mother” since April of this year and sent images of examples of dunking.

It is being reported that eventually Doland offered to fly to Miami to meet the mother and her two girls. Doland agreed to pay $550 so he could restrain the girls under water in a pool until they lost consciousness. Allegedly Doland wanted to watch this occur and perform sexual acts. Allegedly Doland said he “liked watching the bubbles”.

It is alleged that after arriving in Miami Doland paid $550 to a female undercover U.S. Secret Service agent posing as the mother. Investigators say Doland had with him unspecified equipment he was going to use to restrain the girls at the bottom of the pool.

Doland was arrested by the Florida Attorney General’s Child Predator CyberCrime Unit with assistance from the Miami-Dade Police Department.

Reportedly Doland was being held in the Miami-Dade County Jail on bond of $12,500 and faces up to 45 years in prison if convicted.

Update 8/01/07:

Enid, Oklahoma Police Sgt. Bryan Skaggs says that while posing on-line as the mother of two girls, ages 12 and 14, in an operation by the Enid Police Department’s Internet Crimes Against Children Unit, that he was contacted by Jeffrey Doland and was offered $500 for Doland to do the same in Enid.

Additionally Sgt. Skaggs says that Doland also had contact with an Internet crimes unit working in Missouri.

Sgt. Skaggs says the Enid, OK Police Department will forward its case to the Florida attorney general’s office.
